Flash Flooding Threat in the West and South-Central US


Tuesday brings a significant flash flooding risk for parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and the Mid-South; plus, an unusual mix of frost, freeze, and heat advisories in today’s forecast and weather news.

Flash flood warnings and watches in the West, South-Central US, Mid-South

The National Weather Service has issued a number of flash flood advisories for parts of the west and south-central US, as well as portions of the mid-South for Tuesday.

Flash flood warning: south-central, southeastern and southwestern California and desert areas; southern Nevada; northwestern, central and southeastern Arizona; eastern Oklahoma; northwestern and west-central Arkansas.

Flash flood watch: central, eastern, and northeastern Texas; southern and eastern Oklahoma; southern Missouri; western and northern Arkansas; extreme western Kentucky; extreme western Tennessee; extreme southern Illinois.

Heat advisories for Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for the following areas: southwest Oregon, northern California; eastern Southeast in southern Texas; western, central and northern Louisiana; southeastern Arkansas; central and western Mississippi.

Frost advisories and freeze warnings in the West

At the border of August and September, while parts of the west are under heat advisories and red flag warnings, for the second day in a row, parts of the west are under Frost advisories and freeze warnings.

For Tuesday morning, The National Weather Service issued frost advisories for central, northern, and northeastern Nevada, as well as southeastern Idaho. Western Wyoming was under a freeze warning.
