Flood Threat for Gulf Coast Sally to Arrive as Hurricane on Tuesday

The Gulf Coast is under the threat of dangerous flooding today with tropical storm warnings, and Sally is expected to arrive on Tuesday as a Category 1 hurricane; plus, more of today’s weather news and forecast.

Dangerous flooding threat for Gulf Coast on Monday

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued tropical storm warnings for the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle for Monday.

The NWS has also issued flood watches for southeastern Louisiana, the southern and central areas of Mississippi and Alabama, as well as the Florida Panhandle and southwestern Georgia.

Tropical Storm Sally to strengthen into category 1 hurricane, landfall on Tuesday

Tropical Storm Sally is predicted to strengthen into a category 1 hurricane on Monday, and then make landfall on the southeast coast of Louisiana on Tuesday. The current storm forecast track has Sally making landfall just east of New Orleans around 11 AM ET on Tuesday, CNN reported.

Louisiana Governor John Bell Edwards has declared a state of emergency and ordered residents of New Orleans to evacuate.

Red flag and hazardous air warnings from West Coast to the Dakotas, smoke stretching to Michigan

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued red flag alerts for California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, and South Dakota on Monday.

Hazardous air quality alerts have been issued for central California; nearly the entirety of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho; and western Montana.

The smoke from fires burning along the West Coast states of Oregon Washington and California was photographed on satellite stretching all the way to Michigan, Fox reported. California’s neighboring states of Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Illinois have also been inundated with smoke over the past several days, blanketing out sunlight.
