Heat alerts, Thunderstorms, Severe Weather and Flooding Threats

It’s going to be a busy week of weather across the US, as thunderstorms will bring severe weather and flooding threats to three separate regions, while numerous heat alerts span half the country.

Heat alerts for half the nation on Monday

It’s going to be a hot week for many across the US this week. On Monday, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued heat alerts from the West spanning into parts of the South.

The NWS issued the following heat alerts for Monday:

Excessive heat warning: central and eastern Montana; eastern Oregon; southwestern Idaho.

Excessive heat watch: central Montana; southern Minnesota; central Iowa.

Heat advisory: southern Idaho; northern Nevada; northwestern Wyoming; South Dakota; southwestern Minnesota; central and eastern Nebraska; western Iowa; northern and eastern Kansas; northwestern Missouri; central and eastern Oklahoma; Arkansas; eastern Texas; Louisiana; southwestern Tennessee; western Mississippi.

Thunderstorms over the northern corridor will bring severe weather over the upper Midwest

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecast warns of strong thunderstorms this week, which span over the northern corridor.

On Monday, thunderstorms could bring potential severe weather to parts of the upper Midwest over central and northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, and northern Michigan.

On Tuesday, the severe weather threat moves to southern Minnesota. At the same time, thunderstorms will drop South slightly, spanning from the upper Midwest across the northern corridor over the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

On Wednesday, the severe weather threat ramps up again over central and southern Minnesota, throughout most Wisconsin, and into northeastern Iowa and northern Illinois.

Thunderstorms in the West this week, flash flooding threat on Monday

The NWS is warning of thunderstorms over the next three days. On Monday, heavy rain could lead to flash flooding over southern and southeastern California central and southern Nevada, and southwestern Utah.

Thunderstorms will continue in the West on Tuesday and Wednesday, but with no flash flood threats forecast.

Thunderstorms throughout the South this week, flash flooding threat on Monday

Thunderstorms will be prevalent across the South and Southeast throughout the week. 

On Monday, thunderstorms and heavy rain will bring the threat of flash flooding to at least five states in the South and Southeast. The NWS is warning of potential flash flooding on Monday in northeastern Georgia, eastern Tennessee, northwestern South Carolina, western and northern North Carolina, and southern and eastern Virginia.

Thunderstorms will continue in the South this week; however, no flooding threats are currently forecast by the NWS for Tuesday and Wednesday.
