NWS weather alerts for Monday

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the following weather alerts for Monday:

Flash flood warning: eastern Kentucky.

Flood warning: eastern Kentucky.

Flood watch: eastern Kentucky; southeastern California; northeastern, central and southwestern Nevada; northern, central and southeastern New Mexico.

Red flag alert: northern California; southern central and northeastern Oregon; Montana; northeastern Wyoming; northwestern North Dakota; northwestern Nebraska.

Excessive heat warning: central and eastern Washington; eastern Oregon; northern, western and southwestern Idaho.

Heat advisory for portions of: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois.

The 3-day forecast: Flooding rain, severe weather

Scattered thunderstorms across the lower 48 this week will bring a severe weather threat on Monday and Tuesday, as well as a flooding threat on Monday and Wednesday. Dangerous levels of heat for several portions of the country will continue this week. Here is a look at the 3-day forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS).

Monday: Flood risk, severe weather on two fronts

Scattered thunderstorms over portions of the West, Midwest, South, Southeast, mid-South, Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic. Areas of eastern Kentucky already hard-hit by catastrophic, deadly flooding, will be under the threat of heavy rain again on Monday.

Level 2 severe weather alert on two separate fronts. In the upper Midwest over northern and northeastern Nebraska into West-central Iowa. To the east, over southeastern Illinois, southern Indiana, southwestern Ohio, and into northern, central and northeastern Kentucky, as well as along the Kentucky/West Virginia/Ohio line.

Heavy rain with the potential for flash flooding: northeastern, eastern, central and southwestern Nevada; southeastern California; central and eastern Tennessee; central and eastern Kentucky; northern Georgia; southwestern North Carolina; southwestern Virginia; western and central West Virginia; southern Ohio; southeastern Indiana.

Dangerous heat and some portions of the Northwest and upper Midwest (see alerts above). Multi-state red flag alerts (see alerts above).

Tuesday: Severe weather for upper Midwest

Scattered thunderstorms for parts of the West, upper Midwest, mid-South, South and Northeast. A Level 2 severe weather alert for the upper Midwest over eastern Minnesota into northwestern Wisconsin.

Critical fire weather possible over central and east-central Montana.

Wednesday: Scattered thunderstorms, flooding rain

Scattered thunderstorms all parts of the West, Southwest, South, Southeast, upper Midwest and Ohio Valley.

Heavy rain with potential flash flooding over central and northeastern Illinois into northwestern Indiana and southwestern Michigan.
