A winter storm stretching from the Northwest to the upper Midwest will bring snow across a number of northern states for several days, while fierce winds prompt red flag warnings in California and today’s weather forecast.
Several days of snowfall is forecast across a vast stretch of the northern tier of the US. On Tuesday, the National Weather Service (NWS) predicts a wintry mix, freezing rain, and snowfall extending from Washington to northern Michigan. The largest amount of snowfall is anticipated for Thursday, which should blanket a larger area and affect more states.
On Tuesday, snowfall is forecast across parts of Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and northern Michigan, but could also dip down into portions of Wyoming, South Dakota, and Iowa. Portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and northern Michigan could see freezing rain.
However, a vast area is likely to see mixed precipitation in parts of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and northern Michigan.
Strong winds in California could ramp up fire danger in the state. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a red flag warning over much of northern and portions of central California for Tuesday.
The heavy winds could also hamper current firefighting efforts in the state.
Forecasters for the National Hurricane Center (NHC) say Tropical Storm Epsilon, currently in the Atlantic, could be at or near hurricane strength by Wednesday night and may skirt by Bermuda later in the week. Swells generated by the storm are expected to affect the island over the next several days, CNN reported.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said, “These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.”
The path of Epsilon is anticipated to make a turn to the northeast by Friday, steering the storm away from North America.
