Scorching Heat Continues in the West and Southeast, Tropical Storm Alert

At least eight states in the West are under heat alerts on Friday, as well as three states in the Southeast, while a flooding threat exists for eight states in the Ohio Valley and the Southeast; plus, Tropical Storm Alert for Florida.

Tropical storm alert: Hurricane Isaias to Reach Florida Saturday-Sunday, track Along East Coast

Tropical Storm Isaias has now strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane. The National Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm alert for south Florida. Isaias is forecast to be near Florida on Saturday and off the coast on Sunday. From there, Isaiah is forecast to track along the East Coast and reach southeastern North Carolina on Monday, move north and impact on the East Coast all the way to Cape Cod on Tuesday.

Scorching temperatures for the West and Southeast

At least 8 states in the West and 3 states in the southeast are under heat alerts for Friday. Phoenix, Arizona set heat record yesterday reached 118 degrees.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued heat alerts for the following locations today:

Excessive heat warning: eastern and southeast Washington; northern and southwestern Idaho; northeast and eastern Oregon; southern Nevada; southern Utah; southwestern and southeastern California and deserts; northwestern, central, southern and southeast Arizona

Heat advisory:

West: eastern Washington; northern, central and southeastern Idaho; western Montana; northern and northeastern Nevada; western and east central Utah; southern Nevada; southwestern California; central Arizona.

East: eastern, central and southeastern North Carolina; northeastern South Carolina; west-central, southern and southeastern Florida.

Flash flood watch for Ohio Valley and East

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch for at least 7 states in the Ohio Valley and Washington, D.C. for Friday.

The NWS warning affects the following areas: southern, southwestern and southeastern Missouri; southern Illinois; southern Indiana; western, central and eastern Kentucky; eastern West Virginia; northern Virginia; Washington, D.C.; central Maryland.
