A sixth consecutive day of heat in the West and the hot temperatures will move towards the nation’s midsection today, while three systems in the Atlantic may become tropical storms this week, rain in the East.
As the heat wave in the West continues for its sixth consecutive day, the hot temperatures will stretch farther east affecting parts of the northern Rockies and central US where temperatures will climb into the high 90s on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued heat alerts for the following areas:
Excessive heat warning: southwestern Idaho; north-central, central, southern, southeastern and desert areas of California; southern Nevada; western, central, southern and east central Utah; western, northern, central, southwestern and southeastern Arizona.
Heat advisory: eastern and northeastern Montana; southern and eastern Idaho; Southern California and Los Angeles area; northern, central, western and southern Nevada; eastern Utah; central Arizona.
Three tropical disturbances developing in the Atlantic could become named storms this week.
A system currently in the Caribbean Sea has an 80% chance of development by the NHC over the next 5 days, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the Sun-Sentinel reported.
A second system in the central Atlantic Ocean is being given a 90% chance of development over the next 2-5 days, Wink News reported.
A third system off the western coast of Africa has a 20% chance of development.
Expect scattered thunderstorms over parts of the northern Rockies and Southwest. Thunderstorms will be more prevalent along the Gulf Coast, through the South and Southeast and along the Atlantic coast into the Northeast.
Mostly clear throughout the central US and Ohio Valley.
