Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are moving across the upper portion of the country today, and the weekend will bring more snowstorms, while thunderstorms and heavy rain will affect the southern and eastern states today; plus today’s forecast and more weather news.
Storms moving across the upper portion of the US today will deliver a wintry mix across a wide swath of the country spanning from Washington to Pennsylvania, and as far south as Mississippi.
To the west, mixed precipitation will affect most of Washington, Oregon, and Utah; all of Idaho; the western halves of Montana and Wyoming; the northern halves of Nevada and Utah; northern and western Colorado; and portions of northern California.
Freezing rain is also forecast for portions of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah.
The northern and north-central portion of the country will be dealing with snow, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Western Kansas, and Northwest Arkansas.
Mixed precipitation is on tap for northern Arkansas, northern Mississippi, and northern Alabama; all of Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania; Western New York, and the Western regions of North Carolina and Virginia.
A large portion of Pennsylvania and Southwest New York will also experience freezing rain.
The Southeast and Eastern region of the US will see heavy rain and thunderstorms today spanning from Florida and Alabama to the south, northward to New York.
Thunderstorms and rain are forecast for the eastern half of Alabama; the entirety of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia; portions of Eastern Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.
As a 48-year-old Chicago woman was clearing snow off of her car yesterday morning, she was approached by an unknown man who threw her to the ground, grabbed her purse and attempted to flee.
A local resident’s surveillance camera captured the incident. Detectives are investigating but no one is currently in custody.
The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for the following areas: most of Missouri, Eastern Oklahoma, northwestern Arkansas, Southeast Wisconsin, Northeast and West Central Illinois, East Central and Southeast Iowa, Western Virginia, Southeast West Virginia, Eastern Pennsylvania, and portions of northern New Jersey.
