It’s a tale of extremes today across the nation with frost and freeze warnings, ranging to heat advisories, severe thunderstorms, and flash flooding; plus more of today’s weather news and forecast.

West: From heat advisories to frost and freeze warnings

It’s a mixture of extremes in the west, northwest, and northern Rockies.

Southwestern Oregon and northern California are under heat advisories, with red flag warnings along the northwest California coast. Meanwhile, southwestern Idaho is under a frost advisory, and western Wyoming has freeze warnings. The National Weather Service also shows potential mixed precipitation over central and east-central Idaho, southwestern Montana, and western Wyoming.

Farther north, the majority of Montana is under red flag warnings.

Looking south, most of Nevada, all of Utah, and western Colorado are under red flag warnings.

Rain is forecast for eastern Washington and Oregon; most of Idaho, western Montana; western and southern Wyoming; eastern Utah; northern and western Colorado. Thunderstorms are forecast for southern and eastern Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.

South: Heat advisories, severe thunderstorms and flood warnings

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued heat advisories for eastern and southern Texas; northern central and western Louisiana; southeastern Arkansas and southwestern Mississippi on Monday. The NWS has issued an excessive heat warning for Corpus Christi, Victoria, and Laredo, Texas.

Flood warnings remain in effect for the St. Charles, Louisiana area, as well as the western Louisiana coast.

Central Arkansas and East-central Oklahoma are under a severe thunderstorm watch and flash flood warning. However, a second and separate National Weather Service forecast shows potential severe thunderstorms, as well as heavy rain and flash flooding, possible over northeastern Texas, the eastern half of Oklahoma, most of Arkansas, and southern Missouri.

Additionally, flash flooding could also occur in extreme western Tennessee and northern Mississippi.

Southeast: Flash flood warnings

The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings for western and northwestern North Carolina, western Virginia, and southeast West Virginia.
