Sunny Weather for Most of US, Red Flag Alerts for Southern California

Abundant sunshine for most of the nation on Tuesday, mixed precipitation over the Northwest, and the potential snow in parts of the Northeast, while red flag alerts issued for Southern California and more weather news.

Today’s weather overview

Clear and sunny weather is the forecast for most of the US on Tuesday, with only two regions receiving some rain or wintry weather.

Northeast: Mixed precipitation is forecast over northeastern Ohio, northwestern, northern, and northeastern Pennsylvania, as well as a wintry mix for western and Central New York. Snow is possible over eastern New York, southwestern Pennsylvania, and eastern West Virginia.

Northwest: Rain along the coasts of Washington and Oregon. Mixed precipitation is forecast over central and western Washington, where Freezing rain is also forecast over central and western Washington. A wintry mix is forecast northern Idaho and Northwestern Montana, as well as through southwestern, central and northeastern Oregon.

Red flag alerts: south-central and southern California including the Los Angeles area.

High wind warning: central and northwestern Montana including the Great Falls area; southwestern California.

Winter weather advisory: northern Idaho and eastern Washington.

Extended forecast: December 13-17

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued its 6-10 day outlook for December 13 to December 17.

Normal temperatures: Most of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. Normal temps in Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Temperatures are forecast to be within the normal range for most of Missouri, and the southern halves of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, as well as the Western regions of West Virginia, Virginia, and the Carolinas.

Above-average temperatures: Most of the West, Midwest, upper Midwest, Southeast, mid-Atlantic, and Northeast.

High probability of above-average temperatures: Washington, Oregon, eastern Idaho, western Montana, northern California, northern Nevada, southwestern South Dakota, western Nebraska, northeastern Colorado and northwestern Kansas.
